I am still on my doggone vacation kick. We took our RV on a micro-vacation, as I like to call them, Meaning we were only gone for a few days and we stayed close to home. Going to places that were close by, but we’ve never explored.
I wanted to do this for three reasons. One, I wanted to take my dog and then write about it. Two, we didn’t have much time. Three, we don’t have any money. Four, my kids love our RV, much more than I do, so for a little money, it keeps them entertained, plus, they were so excited to have the dog along. And for a freaky, squirrely, skinny, herding dog, Moondoggie was quite at home in, what I lovingly refer to as the Clampettmobile.
I had seen this RV Park in a place called Moss Landing. It looked intriguing.
Moondoggie on a doon in Moss Landing, covered in California Poppies.
Moss Landing is a town between Santa Cruz and Monterey on the coast of Monterey Bay located at the mouth of Elkhorn Slough.
It’s famous for its giant natural gas power plant, which is visible from Santa Cruz and Monterey. It’s a fishing town, and is also home to the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. The Moss Landing Marine Laboratories is a multi-campus research facility, which is sponsored by seven California universities.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute is also located in Moss Landing.
Enough with all the science stuff, it also has antique shops, fun artwork, gardens, good restaurants and beaches. And it’s tiny which fit in perfectly with what we were trying to do.
Moss Landing is also a big sea kayaking town but I thought that would have put my dog and my electronic device-starved boys right over the edge.
Besides I’m not sure how well Moondoggie can paddle.
The RV Park was a KOA and here’s something I did not know, KOA campground/RV parks let you have dogs, as long as you keep them on leashes.
Having a dog that does not bark at other dogs or strange people is a plus. Luckily, my dog is only interested in me—and chasing things, preferably rodents and balls. So she was the perfect KOA tenant.
One more thing. The Moss Landing KOA was unbelievably clean and even though it was small, there were doggie poo stations (Technical term?) everywhere. Oh, and they had these great dog poop bags (Technical term?) that were double thick. O.K., I’ll admit, I stole some. Sorry KOA.
The Moss Landing KOA was a perfect place for our first overnight Doggone Vacation.
Awesome! I like the double poop bag thingy! I like this blog!!!
